Away from the bustle of Kyrenia, with its charming cobbled streets, colourful flowers and centuries-old history, Karmi invites you from the very first step into a magical Mediterranean fairytale.

There are places one visits not merely for the sake of sightseeing, but to soothe the soul, touch the traces of the past, and step away—if only for a while—from the frantic pace of life. Nestled at the foothills of the Kyrenia (Beşparmak) Mountains in Northern Cyprus, the village of Karmi is precisely such a special place.
With its stone houses, streets adorned with vibrant flowers, walls draped in bougainvillea, and unparalleled vistas, Karmi opens a door to what feels like an entirely different world.
This is more than just a village; it is a little fairy tale where history, culture, nature, and tranquility are woven together.

Situated on the mountain slopes west of Kyrenia, Karmi is one of the most distinctive settlements in Northern Cyprus. The village’s history dates back centuries.
During the British colonial period in particular, the village became a place where British residents settled, eventually gaining recognition for its unique architectural identity. Even today, as one wanders through its streets, it is possible to see traces of both Mediterranean culture and European village life.
One of the most wonderful aspects of Karmi is that it has managed to preserve its original character.

When you arrive in Karmi, the first thing you should do is walk—without any rush.
Narrow streets, houses with white or stone facades, colorful doors, small gardens, and flowers cascading from walls...
Every corner is like a photograph waiting to be taken; every street tells its own story.
Here, you lose track of the pace of time. Whether you are admiring a flower in front of a house, examining the details of an old door, or strolling along a quiet street, you find yourself immersed in an entirely different atmosphere.

Located in the center of the village, the Church of the Virgin Mary is an essential part of Karmi’s historical and cultural identity.
This small square is one of the best places to truly sense the spirit of the village. The old structures surrounding the church and the tranquil atmosphere take visitors on a journey into the past.
The beauty of Karmi lies not only in its architecture but also in the cultural memory it preserves.

The present-day appearance of Karmi is the result of a truly fascinating revitalization project.
Following the events in Cyprus in 1974, the village’s original inhabitants departed, and over time, many of the houses fell into disrepair.
In 1979, a decision was made to revitalize the village and foster residential-style tourism. Specific guidelines were implemented to ensure that the houses were restored while preserving their traditional architectural features.
Great attention was paid to every detail—from the shapes of the roofs and the construction materials used to the exterior appearance of the homes and the overall character of the streets.
The sense of harmony that we admire in Karmi today is the direct outcome of this preservation-focused approach.

Karmi is more than just a village of beautiful houses. Thanks to its location, it is a special place, deeply connected to nature and blessed with striking vistas.
The landscape, stretching from the foothills of the Five Finger Mountains toward the Mediterranean, offers unique scenes—a true delight for photography enthusiasts.
In spring, the village takes on a whole new beauty as the flowers begin to bloom. During the summer months, the vibrant colors of bougainvillea contrast beautifully with the white stone walls. Autumn brings a calmer, more romantic atmosphere.
Sometimes, all a person needs is to sit before a beautiful view and sip a coffee, letting their mind drift completely free of thought.
Karmi seems as though it were created precisely for such moments.
